New Dataset Available: The Lisbon Stock Exchange in the Twentieth Century

We are pleased to announce that the library now highlights the newly made public dataset on the activity of the CMVM (Portuguese Securities Market Commission) for the Euronext Lisbon from 1900-2003, derived from the research project “The Lisbon Stock Exchange in the Twentieth Century”, by Maria Eugénia Mata, J. C. Rodrigues da Costa and David Justino.
The dataset offers:

  • The full index series for the Portuguese stock market (1900-2013) and the base data used in its calculation.

  • The methodology and explanatory documents in Portuguese, with an English version outlining the logic and formulae used.

  • Special series covering foundational data (1900-1987), weekly index calculations (with dividends), and adjustments for nationalisations/closure between 1974-1978.

This resource is relevant for students and researchers in finance, business, economic history, and data analytics.
The physical primary sources given by Euronext Lisbon are already accessible in the library’s deposit since July 2025. We’ll ensure this dataset is integrated in our Databases A-Z list under “Finance & Capital Markets”.
