Índice da Bolsa de Lisboa desde 1900

A informação divulgada sobre o índice da Bolsa de Lisboa desde 1900 e das séries que permitiram o seu cálculo até 2013 foi cedida à CMVM por José Rodrigues da Costa, Maria Eugénia Mata e David Justino, autores do livro “The Lisbon Stock Exchange in the Twentieth Century”.

A compreensão da informação estatística requer a leitura prévia dos documentos explicativos e notas metodológicas, apresentados em ficheiros “.pdf”.

A CMVM encontra-se a atualizar as séries até 2024 e disponibilizará esses dados ao público logo que possível.

Download all that data from CMVM

The website is organized in the Portuguese language, to find the statistical information follow these steps:

From this point on, you can download four sets of data:

  1. The very indices series (General Index and Overseas Index);
  2. The data base that supports the calculations of the index (listed companies, number of listed shares, traded volumes, executed prices and Bid/Ask offers, cash dividends); there is a pdf file with a text in Portuguese giving the relevant methodological explanations
  3. Computations executed to obtain the index values; there is a pdf file with a text in Portuguese with the relevant methodological explanations
  4. Computation of the losses due to nationalizations of companies and due to the closure of the Exchange from 1974 to 1978.

You can also download a text in English that explains all the logic behind this project, plus all the formulae used to compute the two indices. It also highlights the reasons that led to compute such a share index time series.
